Pinehurst man charged in robbery attempt at ATM

SOUTHERN PINES - A Pinehurst man has been charged with trying to rob a woman at an ATM machine.

Michael Ryan Culbreth, 25, no address given, is charged with common-law robbery, larceny and possessing stolen property, according to a release from the Southern Pines Police Department.

A woman told police on March 6 that she was at the ATM at 202 S.E. Broad St. about 10:20 p.m. when she saw a vehicle pull up, the release said.

A man got out of the vehicle, covered his face and ran toward her, the release said.

The woman ran away and called police.

She was able to give a detailed description of the man and the vehicle, which led to Culbreth's arrest, the release said.

Bail was set at $100,000.
