WHITEVILLE - A man accused of taking his two sons from the home of their mother last week has surrendered, according to the Columbus County Sheriff's Office.
D.B. Lewis White, 28, surrendered at the Sheriff's Office on Tuesday, Capt. David Nobles said.
White, who had been living in the Loris, S.C.- area, was charged with two counts of kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon and larceny from a person. He is being held at the Columbus County Detention Center with bail set at $52,000, Nobles said.
White is accused of taking his sons, ages 2 and 3, from the home of their mother, his girlfriend, Ann Janowicz, on Will Anderson Road about 10:30 p.m. on July 21.
White was accompanied by another man, who told investigators the next day that the children went willingly with their father. The man said he did not realize anything was wrong until a friend called him the next morning after seeing an Amber Alert on the missing children.
