Kitchen fire destroys Clinton house
CLINTON - A historic house on Moultonville Road was destroyed Tuesday morning by a fire that started in the kitchen, according to Jerry Cashwell, the Sampson County fire marshal.
It was reported at 6:40 a.m. at the home of Milton Douglas Carr, 69, of 176 Moultonville Road, Cashwell said.
Carr suffered second-degree burns, Cashwell said, but he, his wife and a granddaughter managed to get out of the house safely.
Carr did not require hospital treatment, Cashwell said.
The cause of the fire at the two-story, wood-frame house was still being investigated Tuesday afternoon, Cashwell said.
The Carrs lost most of their belonging in the fire but are being assisted by family members, Cashwell said.
Firefighters from seven departments were on the scene until about noon, Cashwell said.
The house is about two miles from Clinton, Cashwell said.
