3 hurt in N.C. 87 wreck
SPRING LAKE - A wreck involving three vehicles on N.C. 87 injured four people Tuesday during a downpour.
Trooper N. Oxendine with the N.C. Highway Patrol said the wreck happened at 11:05 a.m. when the driver of a red Chevrolet pickup skidded in the water and crossed into oncoming traffic.
The driver, James Luna, 29, of Sanford, hit an oncoming Chevrolet Blazer, Oxendine said. Luna was traveling about 55 mph.
The blazer then swerved and hit another vehicle before coming to rest on the right-hand side of the southbound lanes, Oxendine said.
Luna was taken to Womack Army Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening. The other two drivers and a passenger in the Blazer were taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with scraps and bruises, Oxendine said.
Luna was cited for exceeding a safe speed.
